Welcoming Aaron Lybrand as Worship Pastor

Welcoming Aaron Lybrand as Worship Pastor

Kingwood First Baptist Church would like to welcome Aaron Lybrand as Worship Pastor. Aaron was born in Tyler, TX and attended East Texas Baptist University, receiving his B.A. in Church Music and graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is currently working toward a Master of Theological Studies degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary.

Aaron is married to Amie and together they have three children, Abbie (11), Ava (9), and Alivia (5). They have lived and been active in the Kingwood area for many years.

Aaron was jointly recommended by our Student Pastor,
Brian Pearce (who worked with him in Marshall, TX) and Jerry Cronan (our interim traditional service worship leader) who worked with him and later worshipped regularly after retirement under his leadership at Woodridge BC in Kingwood.

Worship, in Aaron’s Own Words:

How were you saved? “I was saved at youth camp at the age of 13 and felt God calling me to full-time ministry at the age of 15. From that point forward, I have seen how God has equipped me to follow that
calling through personal ministry experience. My desire is to equip the saints in knowing God and making Him known.”

Is your wife supportive of your ministry?  “When Amie was in High School, she felt that the Lord was going to put her with a full-time minister. She is fully vested in me serving the church and has been a wonderful teammate in ministry throughout our marriage.”

Who have been key influencer’s in your life and why? “My mother and father were both intentional in discipling me through my childhood and adolescence. Serving God through the local church was part of
the fabric of my family upbringing. Hugh Poland (my past boss) has been a wonderful mentor in both spiritual and practical matters that have been thrown my way. There have been numerous other authors,
pastors, teachers and coworkers who have all played a part in who I am today.”

What do you love most about ministry in the local church? “I love to see peoples’ lives transformed by the power of the gospel.”

How would you describe your leadership style? (i.e. collaborative/delegator/relational/strategic/
etc…? “Collaborative – I want to have input from those who are helping lead. I also want to put people’s skills to use in ministry. If people need help in development, I enjoy training them to get them to a point
where they can serve effectively.”

Please describe your theology/philosophy of worship. “First and foremost, we want to do things Biblically. If we’re worshipping the God of the Bible, then we need to make sure that our focus stays on
Him in His Triune form. I assume this question is dealing with congregational worship as opposed to personal worship. Our personal worship is summed up in Romans 12, which says that we are to offer our
whole selves to the Lord. He is not only our Savior, but is in control of every aspect of our lives. Congregational worship is a special time each week where we get to encourage and be encouraged by our brothers and sisters to grow together in our worship of God. Because corporate worship only works when we do it together, participation is high priority. The importance of all various aspects of the service (songs, prayers, preaching, giving, ordinances) need to be understood by the congregation.”

What has been your greatest discovery about ministry thus far (something that affects the way you serve/lead)? “When people love what they get to do in service to God, they’ll give everything they’ve got.
That doesn’t mean that we only get to serve in areas we love wholeheartedly. If we can plug people into places they’re passionate about, I’ve seen the Lord do transformative things both in and through those
people.”

How would you describe your leadership style (aside from worship leadership on the platform)? “I am a relational leader. I enjoy spending time getting to know people where they are in their walk and
helping them grow.”

What will be your strongest contribution to a church ministry as the worship leader? “As people get to know me, they will see me as a person who has their best interest at heart, as someone dependable
and humble, and hopefully I will be someone they can trust to take them faithfully to Jesus week in and week out.”
