Scriptures
The Holy Bible was written by divinely inspired men and it is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to humankind. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

God
There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

God the Father
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all loving, and all wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

God the Son
Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself the demands and necessities of human nature and identifying Himself completely with humankind but without sin. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of humans from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, partaking of the nature of God and of humans, and in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and humans. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.

God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables humans to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He calls humans to the Savior, and effects regeneration. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole person, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer.

“There is never a point at which you are any less saved than you were the first moment Christ saved you. Just because you were grumpy at breakfast doesn’t mean you were condemned at breakfast. When you lost your temper yesterday, you didn’t lose your salvation. Your name doesn’t disappear and reappear in the book of life according to your moods and actions. You were saved, not because of what you do, but because of what Christ did.”

DEACONS

DEACON QUALIFICATIONS

(Adopted by KFBC Church Family, Revised, 2021)

The guidelines agreed upon by our Church body for a man serving in this capacity are decidedly Biblical (found in Acts 6:1 – 5 and I Timothy 3:8-12),

1. “Full of the Spirit and full of wisdom” (Acts 6:3): A deacon should live a life yielded to the leadership of the Holy Spirit, reflecting the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and recognizing the Bible as his authority and guide in his daily life.
2. “Full of faith” (Acts 6:5): A deacon will be a person who will both express and act on his faith.
3. “Worthy of Respect” (I Timothy 3:8): A deacon will be known to be an honorable, reverent, and sincere believer who seeks to imitate these qualities as demonstrated by the life of Christ.
4. “Not indulging in much wine or other intoxicating substances”

(I Timothy 3:8):  When alcohol or other intoxicating substances become a distraction or deterrent to his personal witness, a deacon will have the responsibility to abstain, respecting whom Paul refers to as our weaker brothers.

1. “Hold the deep truths of the faith” (I Timothy 3:9): A deacon must be convicted of all the truths of scripture.
2. “Tested with nothing against them” (I Timothy 3:10): A deacon must not be a new believer but mature in the faith and recognized as a person of good character and reputation, both within the church and in the community at large, as demonstrated by a life of service to the church.
3. “If Married” (I Timothy 3:12): A deacon is the husband of one wife with a demonstrated knowledge of the God-ordained institution of marriage and manages his own household well, resulting in love and respect from his wife and children.

In addition to these Biblical qualifications, and if elected by the church, a Deacon would also be expected to support the Church financially through tithes and other giving.  He will dedicate himself to the service of the Church, especially the Deacon service ministries to widows, church ordinances, and outreach.  Regular attendance at scheduled church functions is expected as well as attending the monthly Deacon meetings.
