Dr. Woo Answers more KFBC Questions!
Listed below are the questions that we did not have time to address in the churchwide Q&A. You will see the question followed by Dr. Woo’s response in blue
I. About the Church:
a. We have gotten away from community activities in recent years (Christmas program, fall
festival, etc.) does you church participate or host community wide events? Would you
support us doing more? Most definitely. We are very engaged with almost 400 women
each week with our ESL classes which is a powerful ministry to the Chinese, Japanese, and
Koreans. Many of these are pre-believers very open for any help they can receive. Our
VBS, Easter and Christmas programs are specifically designed to reach our Jerusalem.
Every year, we are praying that God would show us creative ways to reach those around us.
One is helping children after school with their homework and to play with them. Most of
these children come from troubled homes or single parent homes. My heart would be so
encouraged if Kingwood FBC would be open to see what doors God can open in our
Jerusalem.
b. Do you think you would want to change the composition and number of volunteers in the
worship music ministry? This would be a matter of prayerful discussion with Aaron, but the
more people who feel called not only to the worship music ministry, but all ministries, the
more our people would have a sense of spiritual responsibility of serving the body of Christ.
In addition, there could be the possibility of shared responsibilities, instead of putting so
much on a few.
c. Would you ever change the name of our church? No
d. How is our church different than your church in Singapore? What both churches have in
common is that both are Baptist, love the Word, and love their pastors. There are some
differences, primarily in size and diversity. IBC Singapore also experiences a lot of
transition. Kingwood FBC is much more stable and multi-generational church family. Both
churches have their strengths, while both have challenges. I have only had the opportunity
of spending less than 2 weeks with Kingwood FBC, so my understanding of the Kingwood
FBC context is quite limited.
e. Your resume states the average weekly attendance at your church is 1500 people, but it
was averaging 2300 prior to COVID. To what do you attribute the sustained loss of 800
people? Sadly, all churches in Singapore experienced a dramatic decrease with COVID
because of the severity and length of the restrictions. Even when we were able to open the
doors, we could only have worship services with no more than 50 people (which went on
for a long time) and everyone who came had to go through temperature checks and be
vaccinated. It took us a while to get back up to over 1000 but now are growing and see new
people come every week. Our baptisms continue to increase with 75-100 each year.
However, we still continue to experience much transition, as people out of Singapore.
f. Do you have Bible Study groups that are the equivalent of our Life Groups every Sunday at
your current church? We have almost 60 Connection groups with 110 Connection Group
leaders. Our Connection Groups are similar to home groups. These Connection Groups
meet in homes, at the church, in the marketplace, all throughout the week. Each group
primarily does sermon-based discussions in which they discuss and apply the sermon
from the previous week. We also have women and men Bible studies, prayer groups, and
accountability groups.
g. How many people on average attend your church in person versus online every Sunday?
We have recently removed online streaming because we still had people who had not
returned to the physical service after 4 years. However, we have several hundred that
watch the IBC services via YouTube. Many of our IBCers stay tuned in from all over the
world.
III. About your Doctrine & Beliefs
a. Would you support leaving the BGCT(Baptist General Convention of Texas “Texas Baptists”) for the SBTC (Southern Baptists of Texas)? This would be a prayerful decision that
the entire church would need to make. I have been out of the US for 15 years and I
understand the religious climate has changed dramatically. So, this would be a learning
opportunity for me to learn where each convention is, and where God would lead Kingwood
FBC together.
b. What eschatological view do you hold? Historical Premillennialist, but I understand that
only the Father know the hour in which Jesus will return.
c. Do you believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God? Absolutely!
d. Do you believe in a young earth? Yes
e. Do you believe Noah’s food was a real event? Yes
f. Please describe the commandment: Go make disciples. This Great Commission reveals
the heart of our Lord, the first disciple-maker. As His disciples, we are to do the same. The
process begins evangelism, a person coming to faith in Christ. Then as disciple-makers,
we have the opportunity to nurture, encourage, and teach the new believer the Scriptures,
what it means to walk daily with the Lord with the Word, prayer, and fellowship. We then
teach and lead by both word and life, what it means to serve the church, share our faith,
give sacrificially and selflessly of our God-given resources, and to have a heart for our
Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the nations. The goal of being a disciple is to make
disciples who will then become disciple makers themselves (2 Tim. 2:2)
IV. General Topics
a. From your book, success in implementing the divine mandate to change from a uniracial to
multiracial church was only superficial at a previous church. What prevented it from being
successful? I believe the reference to my previous church was Friendship Baptist Church,
which started with 15 people and 8 years later, we had over 300 weekly worshipers. Many
of the new worshipers were from a wide range of socio-economic classes and educational levels, but we did not see a wide range of different cultures, ethnicities, and races. One
reason was the area where we lived, in which was majority white. Yet we did see some
breakthrough with some of those who workers from Mexico who worked in the dairies. I
believe each church should reflect the composition of the community in which the church
serves.
b. Feedback from several people who feel that questions raised to date are not being
answered. Instead, responses have been vague, evasive, or deflective. How can they
evaluate if not clear or direct? My goal is to be clear in my answers to each person and
question. With several hundred worshipers at Kingwood FBC, it was a challenge to give
each person adequate time with their individual questions. This is one of the reasons, it
was such a high priority to connect with as many people as possible in the 11 days I was
there. I believe we had 33 different meetings with individuals, pastors, staff, ministry
leaders, Life Groups, families, etc.
c. When pursuing the mandate to move from a mostly uniracial to multiracial congregating,
will KFBC staff be impacted like Wilcrest was in your book? God has given me a great
opportunity to talk in depth with each of the pastors about the possibility of reaching
across all lines. Each of them has a passion to see the church reflect the community and
reach across cultural, ethnic, racial, socio-economic lines. Their hearts love people and
that is where this journey begins.
d. After reading The Color of Church and seeing that church model do you have plans to
change the leadership pastors in our church to reflect the multinational/multiracial vision
God placed in your heart? The journey with the Color of Church at Wilcrest in the SW part
of Houston (Alief) is a radically different context than Kingwood. In addition, it took 18
years to see what God could do in transforming an all-white church in decline to a
revitalized multiethnic church of 44 different nations with no majority racial group. That
was a unique movement of God. Yet this is how God works, He always does something
different in each place. It is exciting to know that there is nothing impossible with God. As I
clearly communicated with the pastors, we would be on this journey together, which will
find a unique divine expression in Kingwood.

Many more details to come about these dates in future updates, stay tuned.
Also, there will be gatherings scheduled in smaller groups for Q&A sessions, along with a planned larger churchwide meeting in order to provide as much opportunity as possible for the KFBC family to get to know Rodney and Sasha. We are in the beginning stages of this planning, so be on the lookout for updates as we work with the church pastors and staff to schedule the meetings.
In other committee news, we have made some changes that will be in effect until the March 23rd vote. The changes involve Mitch Moss has taken the role of Chairman. Carlos Lucio and Rick Walker have taken the roles of Co-Vice Chairmen. The committee voted on these changes and are in agreement that this will help us continue the work of communicating, planning, scheduling, coordinating, and following through all the tasks we need to accomplish for Rodney & Sasha Woo’s visit to be a blessing.
Thank you church family for your continued prayers and patience as we have traveled through this journey. Please keep praying and participating in this process of selecting our next Sr. Pastor.
